RENTABILIDAD Y DESEMPEÑO SOCIAL DE LAS ENTIDADES MICROFINANCIERAS: EVIDENCIA EMPÍRICA DE RELACIONES ENTRE DISTINTOS TIPOS DE VARIABLES
Revista:
27 - 2011
Autores:
Jorge Gutiérrez-Goiria, Beatriz Goitisolo

Achievements and challenges for health in africa: the importance of national health systems for MDGs
Revista:

Autores:
Eduardo Bidaurratzaga
Resumen:
Many of the worst indicators of well-being and health are to be found in
sub-Saharan Africa: they include low existing levels of satisfaction of basic
needs, alongside worrying trends such as the sharp declines in life expectancy
in recent decades in some countries and striking failures to achieve the MDGs.
Such a situation seems to qualify the continent in the specialized literature as a

MDG4: Hope or despair for Africa?
Revista:
27 - 2011
Autores:
Nouria Brikci, Alison Holder
Resumen:
Sub-Saharan Africa is repeatedly painted as a failure in achieving the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This article focuses on MDG4 (reduction
of two thirds in the under-five mortality rate between 1990 and 2015) and
analyses the relative merit of the MDG framework as well as the success or
failure of SSA in achieving this target. The authors argue that despite the positive

Resumen:
The international education goals enshrined in the UN Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) have had a significant impact in sub-Saharan
African countries. Are they likely to achieve the varied developmental roles
ascribed to education, such as poverty reduction, improvements in child
mortality, fertility decrease, increases in tax collection and rising economic

Food crisis and fight against hunger in Sub-saharan Africa. The contribution of MDG under debate

Resumen:
The food crisis, started in 2007 with the increasement of food international
prices, is markedly affecting Sub-Saharian Africa both economically and
nutritionally. Nevertheless, it’s a chronic situation, characterised by high
hunger rates provoked by several structural factors. Within this context,
Millenium Development Goals show several deficiencies although there are

‘Environmental sustain ability’, agricultural intensification and water resource development in Sub-saharan Africa

Resumen:

Progress in achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDG) in Africa has been undermined by failure to reduce under-nutrition, yet efforts to increase agricultural output are circumscribed by indicators for MDG 7, particularly with regard to maintenance of forested areas and conservation of water resources. This implies that increasing agricultural production must be sought from agricultural intensification.

Spanish peseta and purchasing power parity in the long term (1868-2001)
Revista:

Autores:
Gema Fabro, José Aixalá
Resumen:
The aim of this paper is to contrast the theory of purchasing power parity
(PPP) in the case of the Spanish peseta against the dollar, the franc and the
pound. The period of study covers the entire life of the peseta, which allows a
long-term analysis. We use both bilateral and multilateral exchange rates. The
results don’t show evidence of PPP when we use the official exchange rates

Resumen:
The deadline of 2015 for the MDGs is getting dangerously close. It is well
known that most African countries will not meet most MDGs set out in 2000
as an ambitious plan to achieve fast socio-economic progress in developing
countries. This article introduces a special issue to the problematic of MDGs
in Africa, progress achieved, challenges and what is missing from the MDG
