Resumen: This article approaches some relevant economic aspects of Argentina’s
experience with its exchange rate system during the decade 1991-2001, and
studies the causes of the collapse of its currency board. It analyzes how the
intrinsic weakness of the currency boards along with adverse economic shocks
for the Argentine economy generated an unsustainable situation for the
exchange rate.
